What is behind the year-on-year change
The year-on-year decline is in click volume, not in ranking position. Average Google position improved over the year, from 21.2 to 10.9, so the site is ranking higher than it was. The clicks gap has narrowed to just 6% (from around 30% earlier in July), so the site is close to matching last year. What remains sits outside what this weekly report measures, such as overall search demand or AI Overviews answering more on the page. AI traffic is up year on year (72 to 83 sessions).
